Norfolk Island Tourism Rebranding Campaign

In September 2010, I helped to produce a campaign that would bring to life the beauty of Norfolk Island – one of the most stunning islands off the Eastern Australian seaboard, with a goal to revitalise the island’s tourist industry.
Norfolk Island is a sanctuary that’s withstood the test of time to become a retreat for those seeking a different way of life. As part of a major rebranding project for the Island’s Tourism board, I was part of the team engaged to help take Norfolk Island’s peace and tranquility to the world.
The brief was to sum up the story of this iconic island in a series of short films and still images that would capture indepth the vivacity of the island’s people, the rich colours and wide variety of life on Norfolk.
Especially crucial to the success of the project was how we chose to capture Norfolk’s flora, fauna, lifestyle, and a culture that’s steeped in Norfolk’s Mutineer and convict history.
All the video content for the films, as well as for the stills were shot the Nikon D3S DSLR camera; for its incredible high shutter speeds, greater depth of field or fantastic performance in low light.
The Result?
Four emotive, beautifully photographed and well-told short films that launched on the News.com.au website and across the Internet, and a photography series, that pays homage to a wonderful people, a dramatic setting and a way of life that’s a treasure to behold.
In the six months following the campaign launch, visitor numbers to the Island doubled I’m delighted with the final result. If you’ve got five minutes, view the videos below and discover a surprising part of Australia that you’ve probably never seen before.
